Choosing the correct TIG filler rod depends on both the thickness and type of metal being welded.
Select the filler rod diameter based on material thickness:
- 0.045" diameter - Ideal for thin sheet metal
- 1/16" diameter - Suitable for materials up to 1/8" thick
- 3/32" diameter - Recommended for materials thicker than 1/8"
Match the filler rod alloy to the base metal:
- ER70S-2 - Mild steel and 4130 chromoly tubing
- 4043 - Aluminum welding applications
- ER308L - Stainless steel
- Silicon Bronze - Used for brazing and joining dissimilar metals such as copper to steel
