4043 is the most versatile aluminum filler rod and can be used for most applications including 3003, 6061 and a355 aluminum castings.
How To Select Filler Rod The thickness of the metal being welded will determine the diameter of the rod.
- 045” diameter filler rod for thin sheet metal
- 1/16” diameter filler rod for welding metal 1/8” thick or less
- 3/32” diameter filler rod for welding metals thicker than 1/8”.
Match the alloy you’ll be welding to the filler rod. Here are some common applications:
- ER70S-2 – Mild steel and 4130 chrome moly tubing
- 4043 – Aluminum
- ER308L – Stainless Steel
- Silicon Bronze – Used for brazing and even combining dissimilar metals like copper to steel
